You Are Loved
"For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
God, He's all about love.
When I first became a Christian, finally, after about ten years of some questioning, but mainly sex and booze, I was blown away with it and wanted to share my new found faith with everyone, but I was insensitive, nobody else, almost without exception, was either interested, or anything but cross with religious people. I was having a meal with a few people one time and I was spouting off about Christianity and sin, and stuff like that and nobody was interested, in fact my brother was really cross with me, and I finally shut up and I believe to this day that I understood what Jesus wanted to say to the one person who, despite his anger, was still listening, I said to him "Why do you find it so hard to believe that someone would love you so much that they would die for you?". His eyes went all wet and he got up and he poured himself another drink, he was an alcoholic, he was wealthy, he'd never had to work a day in his life, but that was what he needed, that's what we all need, to hear, that we are loved, totally, sacrificially, and unconditionally. That was the last conversation that I recall having with Paul. A couple of years later I was at his funeral and his sister came up to me and said "I think that you would want to know that Paul had started going to church". You see the thing is that yes God wants us to stop sinning, it's bad for us and it's bad for other people, there is a price that goes with it, but Jesus really loves us and He loves us so much that he was willing to be beaten half to death then crucified on a cross to bear the punishment for our sin and pay the ultimate price, which otherwise is eternal separation from God, and all that we've got to do is say that we are sorry, accept him as our saviour, and do our best to follow him, and yes he knows that we still screw up, but he still loves us.
